What you need ready

  • Your ABN or business name. The indication form looks it up on the Australian Business Register as you type.
  • The equipment type, from the approved list of more than 40 item types.
  • Its value excluding GST, up to $2 million per policy (you can have multiple policies).
  • The state your business is registered in, the term you want (12 to 60 months) and its registration: unregistered, conditional or full.
  • To send your details after you see your indication: your business street address, and for each machine its make and model, the year it was built and whether it’s new or used. If you already own it, the date you bought it: equipment bought in the last 5 years can be covered for up to 5 years.

1. Get your indication

Enter the machine’s details and your ABN on the indication form. You don’t need to give a name, mobile or email to see your indication. Your indicative premium appears on screen in about 90 seconds, including GST and fixed for the term you chose. It’s an estimate from those details, not a quote or an offer of insurance.

2. We connect you

The same day, our specialist insurance partner emails you an e-brochure for your consideration, with the policy wording. The price in it holds for 30 days. If you’re financing the machine, tell us the lender and we’ll note it on the policy.

3. Lock it in

Accept online, paperless. Your certificate of currency follows in about five minutes, which is what your lender needs before finance settles.

Paying by the month starts with an initial payment: a share of the first year’s premium, the first monthly instalment and a one-off admin fee. The rest is spread over equal monthly payments for the term. It costs from 12.99% a year more than paying upfront (higher on shorter terms). The admin fee is worked out from the premium and capped. Your indication shows each amount and the total. It isn’t a loan: no application, no credit check, no funding contract. How that compares with insurance premium funding.

What you won’t need

No proposal form covering years of claims and legal history, and no renewal re-rating during the term: the premium isn’t affected by claims, inflation or market movements once it’s set.

What “fixed” means

The price for the whole term is set on day one, so there are no renewals and no re-pricing. The insured value isn’t flat, though: it’s 100% in years 1 and 2, then a 10% depreciation is applied each year from year 3. Your policy schedule lists the insured value for each year.

YearInsured value, for a machine insured for $100,000
Year 1$100,000
Year 2$100,000
Year 3$90,000
Year 4$81,000
Year 5$72,900

If a machine is a total loss, the claim is settled at the insured value for that year. For a machine less than two years from its date of manufacture, it can be up to 115% of that value if the replacement cost has gone up. If the machine is under finance and more is owed than the insured value, every policy can pay up to an extra 30% of that year’s insured value towards the payout. The policy wording has the details.
