The problems this solves

What matters for transport & logistics businesses.

Real five-year premiums from current policies are below, with what each costs a year and as a share of the insured value.

01

The prime mover is insured separately

This cover is for trailers on the approved list. The truck that tows them needs its own policy, so check both are in place before the finance settles.

02

Financed with the truck, or on its own

Trailers are often financed alongside the prime mover or as standalone units. A multi-year policy can run for the same 12 to 60 months as the finance, with one premium for the whole term.

03

Business trailers, not caravans

Cover is for trailers used wholly or predominantly in a business. Camper, caravan and private box trailers aren’t covered.

04

Several trailers in the fleet

One policy can cover a single trailer or several, up to $2 million per policy, and a business can hold more than one policy.

How much does truck trailer insurance cost?

It depends on your state, the trailer, its value, the term and its registration. As a real example, a truck trailer insured for $141,977 has a five-year premium of $11,190, fixed for the whole term.

Is the prime mover covered?

No. The approved item list covers trailers, so the truck itself needs separate cover.

Which trailers can be covered?

Tipper, pantech and curtainsider trailers; low loader, dolly, flat top and drop deck trailers; car carrier, tanker, refrigerated and livestock trailers; and light trailers towed by a car, as long as they’re used wholly or predominantly for business.

Can the premium be included in my finance?

With participating lenders, yes. The premium is added to your finance, so one monthly repayment covers both. You can also pay upfront or monthly.

Is this cover for private trailers?

No. Cover is only for trailers used wholly or predominantly for business.

Why fixed

Priced once.
Not every year.

A standard annual policy is re-rated at every renewal for claims, inflation and market changes. A multi-year policy sets the price for the whole term on day one.

Annual policy

Re-rated yearly

Four renewals, four re-ratings. Bar heights are illustrative, not real premiums.

Fixed multi-year policy

Locked on day one

One price for the term you choose, set on day one and never re-rated. The bars show the insured value: 100% in years 1 and 2, then a 10% depreciation each year from year 3.

In the five years to June 2026, insurance prices paid by Australian households rose 47.9%, about double the 24.1% rise in all prices (ABS). Why premiums keep rising.
